Winter Adventure

The boys climbing "Mega Hill"
(I'm taking the picture from 1/2 way up)
They wanted to go off trail exploring.
I am thankful for foot prints to find our way back when needed :-)

Her we are at the top.
Notice the tree line behind them.

Time to stop for some Sno-Cones
Remember boys...only vanilla snow

After the snow ball fight its time to build a snow man

OK, he's just a little guy, but what the camera doesn't show
is the big guy behind it, all covered in snow from losing the snow battle.
2 against 1 without good snow gloves...not fair.

Time for the farewell beat down mr snowman.
I can't show the after pictures...far too gruesome

Favorites

Here are a few of our favorite cds for the kids!
Our older kids listen to Bible stories and have learned a great deal from them!

The younger children listen to these 2 or 3 minutes bible story clips and then a song. Very catchy tunes. They just love them.
I personally enjoy this cd since I listened to these exact songs a a child. They sing quite a bit of scripture. It's a great cd.

Learning to Read

This year I have been working with our kids on reading.
We started with a book that would work lesson by lesson to learn to read.
It went well, until about halfway through.
Somehow, the method became overwhelming for my son.
So we started the Dick and Jane books at the Library. Soon after that, I found this collection at the local bookstore! David is already more than halfway through it! They are really cute stories, and have stood the test of time. I like seeing the old fashioned toys and such in the pictures.
Another resource that my friend told me about are BOB books.
These are the neatest little books! My boys absolutely love the silly stories, and they are short enough that the child feels like he has accomplished something at the end.
I like the way that they are gradually harder and have a word list in the back.
We also have been using the Five in a Row curriculum for this year.
You know, I have learned quite a bit about how to teach using library books, and even how to make a lap book. I like that they cover a good range of subjects in each book that is read.
All of my children like to sit and listen to the stories, and so I feel that I don't have to keep the littles entertained with "doing school". It has been a nice approach to k5 and first grade for us.

Valentines

With Valentine's Day coming, my kids were looking
for a chance to have cupcakes. Well, anything sweet!

So of course I'm a sucker for baking.
They decorated with these little candies and sprinkles.

Aren't they so mean? I'm saying wow...Look at Matthew's face!
I think he would take a bite right out of that cupcake if he could!
I must admit, that I did let him taste my chocolate ice cream the other day.
He loved it.
Is that bad? His first taste of real food. Chocolate ice cream...
Must be my 5th baby.
My first didn't taste a bit of sugar till his first birthday...

She has the sweetest eyes.

Having Boys

I love having boys...they really do keep me on my toes.

If he knows you are taking his picture, he will execute some sort of face...

Happy as a lark. I know you can't see it, but he just lost another tooth!

Hmmm...Those icicles are cool, but I don't know if that fence is sturdy enough!!!
Boys!

A different point of view

So apparently my 2 year old got ahold of the camera
again. He thinks he's Ten.
I guess this is what he sees from where he's standing!

Gotta love another perspective on life...

Snow Day

David and Maggie really enjoy the snow.
When the went out, it was blowing
white out conditions. They had a blast
playing around in it!
Too cold for me!

I just ended up shoveling later in the day.
Gotta get that exercise in somehow!

Strawberry Jam

I still have strawberries we picked last spring in my freezer!
So we decided last week to make Strawberry jam.
So far we've had good feedback about the taste.
I know Dub liked it!
I think we will be making more of this in the future.

Homeschool Fun

We are enjoying a few nursery rhymes today
with this cute book we found at home school freebie of the day!
